We are thrilled to announce that Cere Bridge has integrated support for WalletConnect 2.0!
This latest version of the decentralized wallet connection protocol is a game-changer, ensuring a seamless user experience for Cere Network users and significantly enhancing the interoperability and user experience for multi-chain wallets while ensuring trust and security.
WalletConnect is an open-source protocol that establishes connections between various crypto wallets and decentralized applications (dApps). Its second version offers several advantages over its predecessor, WalletConnect 1.0, providing richer features and an easy-to-use interface even for inexperienced crypto users.
One of the significant enhancements of WalletConnect 2.0 is its chain agnostic interface. Unlike its predecessor, which primarily supported Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible chains, WalletConnect 2.0 broadens its reach to support chains beyond EVM, such as Polkadot and Cosmos. This expansion enables dApps to connect with a more extensive range of chains and fosters an environment of increased interoperability.
Furthering its commitment to interoperability, WalletConnect 2.0 introduces the ability to connect to a dApp on multiple chains simultaneously. This feature allows users to interact with multiple chains without the inconvenience of switching between them, provided the dApp and wallet agree on a list of chains and allowed methods during session connect.
In a significant departure from WalletConnect 1.0, sessions and pairings in WalletConnect 2.0 are decoupled. This change ensures that users no longer need to pair again if they still have an active pairing, even when a session expires or is terminated. This feature provides an improved user experience by reducing the need for repeated QR code scanning or deep link usage for every new application connection.
WalletConnect 2.0 introduces expiry timestamps for sessions, currently defaulted to 7 days. This feature helps ensure that users’ sessions are secure and up-to-date, eliminating scenarios where sessions are managed indefinitely due to one party not communicating its termination. It also includes a mechanism to evaluate if the peer client is currently online or not, offering additional security and flexibility for users.
As part of our commitment to providing the best possible user experience, Cere Bridge has upgraded its wallet to support WalletConnect 2.0. We will continue to support version 1.0 until the ecosystem migration is completed.
The Cere Bridge’s integration with WalletConnect 2.0 significantly enhances the user experience for multi-chain wallets, ensuring trust and security. This integration allows dApps to request the wallet to connect to multiple networks simultaneously, a significant leap towards a more interconnected and efficient blockchain ecosystem.
When a dApp requests a connection, Cere Bridge checks for a 1.0 or 2.0 request and establishes a connection accordingly. Cere can connect to dApps using any of the wallets, including a connected wallet. This dynamic and flexible approach underscores our commitment to delivering the best user experience and ensuring broad interoperability across the blockchain landscape.
WalletConnect is an open protocol that enables communication between blockchain wallets and decentralized applications (Dapps) on the web. It is chain-agnostic, meaning it can work with any blockchain. The protocol acts as a messaging layer for the Web3 space, expanding the interoperability of the ecosystem
Cere Network stands as the premier Decentralized Data Cloud (DDC) platform, ingeniously constructed on the robust foundations of Substrate and Polygon. Not only is Cere the trailblazing Web3 project to enable trustless cloud data storage, integration, and collaboration across varied blockchain networks, but it also plays a pivotal role in advancing Web3 NFT, metaverse, and gaming content. The credibility of Cere’s mission is reinforced by endorsements and backing from global giants such as Binance Labs, Republic Labs, and Polygon.
